Is Hello Kitty Birds of Prey a contradiction? I don’t care. This put a smile on my face, which I needed. Thanks to artist Katie Dreyer (@SnarkyNerdette/Tumblr)!

Just a pre-curser to my op/ed going up on Newsarama in a bit about the Batgirl/Oracle news. I wrote this a few months ago.
What I’ve enjoyed about this series, other than the fantastic writing and insight, is having people who have a love for certain characters write about them. One of things I love about comics is the personal connection people have with characters. Where I have been able, I’ve invited guest posters to write about characters that I know they have an affinity for. Today’s guest poster is the talented Jill Pantozzi, “the Nerdy Bird” who writes for her own blog, Has Boobs, Reads Comics as well as the column “Hey that’s my cape!” for Newsarama as well as several other comics sites. Jill and I share a love for the same character. Can you guess who she is writing about?
ORACLE Is Stronger Than BATGIRL Will Ever Be. My op/ed is now up at @Newsarama.
If you haven’t heard yet, there’s an Oracle Create-A-Thon going on now! Here’s a recent contribution I found amusing. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend would like to try and take my phone away from me at social gatherings but he knows better…
[From left to right: Cassandra Cain, who is wearing a black pantsuit has linked arms with Stephanie Brown, who is wearing a purple dress. Oracle Barbara Gordon is in the middle, wearing a black dress and an Oracle ring. Dick Grayson, who is wearing a blue shirt, black pants and a Superman belt buckle, is attempting to take her iPhone away. Jason Todd, who is wearing black pants, grey shirt and a red tie, and sporting gun holsters, is chuckling at Tim and Damian, who are standing to the right of him. Damian Wayne is dressed in a navy blue suit with a grey tie and wears a little bat pin on his lapel, is pointing his finger at and making a mocking face at Tim Drake. Tim is frowning back at Damian. He is wearing a dark blazer, white shirt, khaki pants and a LCD belt buckle that says ‘geek’]
I had this commissioned by the amazing Duskflare (guy-gardner.tumblr.com)
I wanted Babs front and centre so people would notice her first.

Can’t get enough of this amazing Oracle image by Rahzzah.
[image: a fan art of Oracle. The perspective is looking down on Oracle. She is seated in her wheelchair with a cup of coffee in her hands. Screens are reflected in her glasses. Yellow text at the bottom of the image reads, “Protecting Gotham City While You Sleep.”]
I am LOVING this image. Oracle by Rahzzah on DeviantArt.

the idea of this particular re-boot doesn’t vibe with me at.all.
I don’t care when they want to change a characters origin, make them younger, make them “edgier”,give them a lame 90’s jacket with rolled up sleves… hell, give them an ass-ton of Liefeld pouches, I don’t really care…comics have always been an ever fluid, ever changing, often convoluted medium..
but to take this particular character, one who really does stand for something in the hearts of people with disabilities, (and frankly a character that doesn’t HAVE to be Bat-Girl in that same way that Bat-Man pretty much HAS to be Bat-Man or Steve Rogers HAs to be Captain America in the eyes of most fans)..to take that character and pretty much throw out what,at least in my mind, establishes and shaped the true hero shes become just for the sake of “shakin things up” is bullshit
I totally understand that D.C. isn’t setting out to be disrespectful or insensative, but I think that’s exactly what it is…
so yeah, I hope any of you fellow artists out there who come across this also contribute something
A simple yet beautiful depiction of Babs as Oracle by Yasmin Liang.
ADORBZ Oracle by Rachel Moir!
[image: a cartoony, marker-drawn Oracle wearing a bat symbol t-shirt smirks at the viewer, one hand on her keyboard, the other on her chair. Behind her, on the computer screen, is the Oracle symbol.]
My quick little Oracle tribute. It’s nothing fancy, but I wanted to take part in this.

Had to make this my new Twitter icon. It was too beautiful not to. By Matthew Skipworth, aka Crimsonsea.
[Image description: A portrait of Oracle from the shoulders up. She wears yellow-tinted glasses and beautifully detailed, flaming red hair falling about her shoulders in waves.]
DC Comics’ Executive Editor Eddie Berganza answering what storylines from the history of the current DC Universe are going to carry forward into the relaunch.
So “The Killing Joke” still happened. Interesting…

Yeah, what is this? Fiction or something?
Regarding BARBARA GORDON’s upcoming miraculous recovery…
Don’t worry, Batman was giving Barbara a ride to pick up some eggs and milk. It’s totally legit.
Batgirls jumping rope. Just cuz.
Batgirls jumping rope as requested
What THREE Batgirls? That’s so confusing. Now four Robins, that EASY!
Not letting go of that. Nope.
I was asked to be part of a very cool project, here’s the first look!
This is my pencil and ink sketch of my friend Jill AKA @TheNerdyBird as Barbara Gordon/Oracle. For those not keeping score, Barbara used to be Batgirl before the Joker (that bastard) shot her and left her wheelchair bound. Not one to rest on her laurels, Barbara became Oracle.
This character is very special to Jill as she suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, and, like Oracle, she is in a wheelchair. I wanted to make this one really special because of what the character means to Jill. So I am riding this drawing pretty closely, to make sure I hit the right notes. the pencil was pretty awesome. The ink felt good, but was a tough one to make work, for me personally. Flat color will be posted in a bit. The final effects in Photoshop is where this image should really start coming together. I’ll post that in a bit. More soon…
The finished product!! Thanks so much Len, I love it!!
And the final image of @TheNerdyBird as Oracle. Great little project for today. I’m always up for drawing the Batman universe, good and bad.
I am available for commissions! Yes I am! Feel free to use the commission button at the top of this page.
